Get to know the staff: Amanda Smith, Talent Manager

‘Get to know the staff’ is Profit Squirrel’s way to introduce our amazing team to our equally amazing members. Here, 27-year-old Amanda Smith, known as Mandy, answers to a few questions about her role as Talent Manager AKA “diamond miner” and shares some funny work stories - mostly involving alcohol.

Tell us a bit more about your role at Profit Squirrel. What are you responsible for?
I help source the talent at Profit Squirrel. I'm like the diamond miner if you will, trying to find those star employees who make us who we are. There's a lot that goes into finding the right people, making sure the core values of the company match up with the mindset of our employees is a big part of it.

How did you first hear about Profit Squirrel and how did you get involved?
Super random, a friend of mine who works in the City met Chris (Profit Squirrel’s founder) at a house party. Chris explained what Profit Squirrel was all about to her and she immediately thought of me. She knew that the culture of the company was exactly what I was looking for, so I got in touch with Chris, met the team and the rest is history.

What is your favourite part about working for Profit Squirrel?
Wow, ok, there are so many things. If I had to pick one, I would say our Friday afternoon "team bonding" - essentially alcohol + an indoor sport. I never thought indoor softball in the office could turn out to be an actual exercise, but I'm telling you, after a few drinks you will be sweating profusely, or at least I usually am!

So far, what has been your funniest moment at Profit Squirrel?
It would have to be our developer David's speech at the team dinner event in July this year. Needless to say, a lot of alcohol had been consumed before the spectacle. David was just finishing off what was to be fair to him quite a good speech but it wasn't to be. As he raised his arm to toast he started to slowly tip backwards, the alcohol had taken its toll and one limb at a time he lost his balance and all in impeccable slow motion, he went crashing backwards. I can still remember the look in his eyes as he was on his way down, I could not stop crying with laughter, poor guy! Thankfully he was ok, a part from his white shirt which was now maroon red.

Why would you encourage people to sign up?
If you want an extra £500-£1,000 a month, Profit Squirrel is by far the easiest way to make that happen. I remember when I first heard about Profit Squirrel, I wasn't sure if it was for me, but when I used the site myself, I realised that it has literally been created so that anyone can do this. They've built the entire site and support structure so that they are with you every step of the way, which for someone like me is a big deal. I want to be able to know that there is always someone there to help me if I ever need it, so having this great support structure for our members was a big pull for me in believing that we can achieve our mission in helping millions of people in the UK make an extra £500-£1,000 every single month.
